rendezvousThis summer, CITT is offering various certification courses for professional stage technicians during the CITT Rendez-vous 2013 in Calgary AB.  Those courses include:
 
FIREARMS FOR THE STAGE & PAL CERTIFICATION
A look at the operations of film and stage blank firearms including hands on demonstrations; Licensing of non-restricted and restricted firearms and Possession and Acquisition License (PAL). PAL test and documentation included.

Date: Thursday August 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Cost: $200.00 +tx including PAL Certification ($275 +tx for non CITT members)

NRC-ERD Display Firework & Pyrotechnics Certification Courses

DISPLAY FIREWORK SAFETY AND LEGAL AWARENESS COURSE
Display Fireworks (Class 7.2.2) are high-hazard firework articles designed for use by professionals. Successful completion of the course is a prerequisite for entry into the field as an Apprentice.

PYROTECHNIC SPECIAL EFFECTS SAFETY & LEGAL AWARENESS COURSE
This one-day course is a companion to the Pyrotechnics Special Effects Manual and serves to promote the safe use of all pyrotechnics and special-purpose effects used in the entertainment, performing arts, television and film industries.  Completion of the Pyrotechnics Special Effects Safety and Legal Awareness Course is mandatory prior to certification.

– Day 1  continued on Thursday This one day course explores several workflows and methods to achieve technical excellence with projected media.
Morning
Visualizing outside the Theatre using a scale model and pico projector.
Visualizing with a 3D computer model.
Going full scale while maintaining flexibility: Demonstration of large scale projection mapping.
Afternoon
Handout and discussion: The Video Production Checklist
Presentations and hands on time with Watchout, Resolume, Isadora, Millumin, MadMapper

– Day 2 continued from Wednesday This one-day course explores how video production can contribute to the creative process.
Morning
Building a production pipeline. Steps to maximize workflow, create options and time. Interactive volley of examples and confessions.
Interactive technology or Faking it. Examples to trick the audience.
Effective Cueing and Programming tips
Lighting with projection.
Future watch: LED projectors. How do lumens and watts compare when quantifying projectors and LED output.
Afternoon
The working relationship of the Lighting and Projection Designer
Vidnery: What happens when scenic design is projected design
Take a chance on me? Projected Media in Regional Theatre
Robots & Wizards: Case Studies of Video Design in Musical Theatre with Sean Nieuwenhuis

THURSDAY August 15 | 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
SCULPTING WITH FOSSHAPE
In this workshop we will explore different ways to “sculpt” with FOSSHAPE using various forms and methods of applying heat. We will look at different approaches to molding and modelling with FOSSHAPE and participants will have the opportunity to create a variety of samples using both medium and heavy weight FOSSHAPE. Both props makers and costumers will find this workshop applicable. FOSSHAPE can be used to create hats and masks, as well as numerous costume and props components. You are only limited by your imagination! Participants can expect to leave with a variety of samples as reference for further exploration of this wonderful product.

About the Instructor:  Angela Dale has been designing and building costumes and props for over 25 years. She has worked in theatre, film, dance and opera and holds an MFA in Set & Costume Design from the University of Calgary, a BFA in Fine Artsfrom NSCAD University and a Certificate of Costume Studies from Dalhousie University.


CITT RENDEZ-VOUS 2013 Annual Conference & Trade Show
will take place in Calgary, Alberta from August 15 to 18
with Pre-Conference Workshops on Wednesday & Thursday August 14-15
at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (SAJA).

The conference offers full days of sessions, backstage tours and social events, with more intense workshops and certification courses held 2 days prior to the Annual Conference.  
 
The industry trade show where suppliers and manufacturers present new products and technologies to the attendees will be featuredFriday August 16 on the SAJA stage. In-depth sessions are scheduled on Friday morning, including a scenic painting workshop, a hands-on session on show control, and a backstage tour of the Pirate of Penzance outdoor set in the East Village.
 
Saturday August 17 is dedicated to professional development, and Sunday August 18 will offers insightful panel discussions.
 
Rendez-vous is also the occasion for CITT’s Annual General Meeting:  a must for all CITT members to learn more about what the organisation has been doing over the year and to review the annual reports and financial statement.
 
Evening social events include the opening night Junk Challenge, the ever zany Swag Bingo Live Auction on Friday night following the trade show, and the conference highlight: the CITT Awards Banquet where we honours those individuals and companies who have excelled in their field of live performance in Canada.
