SENIOR DIRECTOR, ADVANCEMENT
HONENS INVITES APPLICATIONS AND REFERRALS FOR THE POSITION OF SENIOR DIRECTOR, ADVANCEMENT.
As the chief advancement officer of Honens, the Senior Director of Advancement is charged with the planning, implementation and evaluation of Honens’ fundraising efforts. This position requires a broad knowledge of corporate communications and fund development, from individual philanthropic programs to corporate sponsorship, foundation and government giving to capital/endowment campaigns. The Senior Director of Advancement reports to the President & Artistic Director and is accustomed to working with a small committed team.

Honens has a $6.2 million budget for its three-year operating cycle. The organization is experiencing rapid growth in its activities and its profile and requires a senior individual to work with the existing management team, board, and other volunteers to increase contributed revenues and maximize public awareness.

This position has two direct reports: Manager of Stewardship & Special Events and Manager of Community & Partner Engagement. The Senior Director of Advancement works closely with the President & Artistic Director on organizational strategy.

In 1991, philanthropist Esther Honens established the Honens International Piano Competition Foundation in her hometown ofvCalgary, Canada, with a gift of $5 million. Her dream was to discover and launch the careers of the world’s most promising pianists—a dream that has become a Canadian success story. Honens Laureates are critically acclaimed the world-over and the triennial ‘Search for the Complete Artist’ awards the largest prize of its kind—$100,000 CAN and an artistic and career
development program valued at a half million dollars. In addition to touring and presenting its Laureates worldwide, Honens presents a festival and concerts each year in Calgary and learning and community outreach programs across Canada. The Eighth Honens Prize for Piano will be awarded in 2015.

QUALIFICATIONS
The Senior Director, Advancement will have senior experience in fundraising and corporate communications, preferably with an arts organization and a university degree in music/arts and/or business management or equivalent experience. The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership in fundraising with superior analytical, financial and organizational credentials. Other necessary characteristics include a passion for the performing arts—ideally including classical music—
political savvy and diplomacy, exceptional oral and written communication skills, a track record in building community engagement and partnership, and the ability to deal humanely and wisely with a broad spectrum of personalities.
He/she must be a strategic thinker and a relationship builder—someone who maintains a high professional profile, can secure financial resources, and, with his/her staff, be able to develop unique collaborative relationships with other organizations.
Capital/endowment campaign experience and a track record in individual major gifts fundraising and corporate sponsorship are assets.
