Denise Clarke, One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatres’ Associate Artists and permanent member of the creative ensemble received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Calgary on Wednesday, June 12.
Denise Clarke is an internationally-hailed artist in dance and theatre, and was given this honor for her accomplishments as a choreographer, actor, director, playwright and teacher across Canada and in Europe. Through her work with One Yellow Rabbit and as an independent artist she has established a national and international profile and has become an integral part of the development of Canadian performance creation. This honor also recognises her contribution as a teacher, mentor and inspiration to the Calgary arts community.
At the convocation ceremony where she received her Honorary Doctorate, Clarke delivered a speech sharing her Rabbit wisdom: “… Find your posse. Define your decision-making practice. Don’t be afraid.
