SEEKING EQUITY MEMBERS TO SIT ON COUNCIL’S OPERA COMMITTEE

This is a call to Equity members who work in the Opera discipline
including stage management and directors/choreographers. In order to
generate discussion and heighten Council’s awareness of members’
concerns regarding working in the opera discipline, Equity’s Council has
created an Opera Committee to comprise a diverse group of members for
the 2012-2015 term.

Council will provide some financial and staff support to assist the
Committee in its endeavours. The Committee will report concerns and
issues relevant to the opera discipline back to Council through a
councillor liaison. The advisory is also required to submit an annual
report to Council.

A few examples of topics for discussion are:
– non-Canadians hired for principal roles
– future negotiations of Equity opera agreements (COC, VOA, Opera
Agreement, Guest Artist etc)
– independent and small “opera” companies and their relationship with
Equity
– communication to members in the Eastern and Western Opera regions
– AND whatever you would like to discuss.

A Committee volunteer will need to commit to attending a minimum of two
annual meetings through teleconference or Skype. Only regular members in
good standing are eligible to serve on a Council Advisory Committee.

Cross-country communication will benefit the Opera membership as a whole
and will improve the Opera membership’s connection to Equity Council.
