EVERGREEN THEATRE ANNOUNCES NEW ARTISTIC PRODUCER
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | April 23, 2013
Evergreen Theatre’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce a new artistic structure as Valmai Goggin assumes the role of Artistic Producer, replacing Jacqueline Russell who will step into the role of Director of Creative Development at the end of this season.
“We think that this coming year will be a strong transition for the organization,” says
Christina Chase-Warrier, President of the Board of Directors. “We are confident that Valmai’s vibrant energy and experience will continue the educational and environmental legacy of Evergreen Theatre. We are excited to continue working with Jacqueline in her new position and benefit from her expertise in guiding our program development.”
Originally from the Maritimes, Valmai Goggin is a director and theatre educator. Valmai has directed for numerous theatre companies across Alberta and even spent a year in Nunavut where she directed the first-ever production of Macbeth that far north. Valmai served as Assistant Artistic Producer for three seasons at Festival by the Marsh (Sackville NB) and has worked and trained across the country, including Magnetic North, the National Voice Intensive, DirectorsLabNorth, and the Banff Centre for the Arts. Valmai is the Co-Artistic Director for Theatre Transit, and the 2012-13 RBC Emerging Director at Lunchbox Theatre.
(Congratulations Valmai – from all of us at Theatre Alberta and Artstrek 2013!)
“Valmai is well versed in Evergreen’s mandate and approach. She has directed for us during the past two seasons and as such possesses a tangible understanding of our programs. I think she will bring an immense amount of passion to the job and I am excited to work with her this coming season to create a seamless transition,” comments outgoing Artistic Producer Jacqueline Russell.
Jacqueline Russell became Evergreen’s Artistic Producer in 2008; during her time with the organization, Evergreen Theatre expanded its new work development program, launched several new programs and established close ties with the professional theatre community.
“Jacqueline brought a new level of professionalism to our organization. We have benefited from her creative skills and leadership. We are delighted that she will remain involved with Evergreen during this upcoming transition,” says Chase-Warrier.
