Valerie Planche – Communion by Daniel McIvor – Calgary

The pauses at the beginning and throughout the script would challenge any actor. They forced me to think through the character, to sit with her. Linda Moore (the director) kept saying, “Not long enough Val!” and I’d think – are you crazy, they’re gonna be so bored…(expletive!) FINE! And I’d sit. It taught me a lot, that role. Plus Daniel’s writing is so spare and turns on a dime. It was a pleasure to say, “I wonder how it’s gonna turn out tonight?” and walk that walk that broke my heart, every night.
