Trevor Rueger – The Balcony by Jean Genet – University of Calgary, 1993

It was a huge challenge. I played a woman, not a man in drag, a woman. The portrayal had to be convincing as the director was investigating gender stereotypes. I had to fool the audience into thinking one thing when the truth was another thing. Opening night when I was revealed as a man, there was audible gasping, so I guess it worked. On a side note, I met my future wife on this show.
