See them at their Winter Showcase March 1 in The Club+
EDMONTON – For the fifth consecutive year, the Citadel Theatre/Robbins Academy is pleased to introduce you to the 2013 Young Companies participants. The Young Companies program is a year-long curriculum that prepares 16-21 year olds for entry into post-secondary education in the arts offering specialized training in: Acting, Musical Theatre, Playwriting and Theatre Production.
“The Citadel Young Companies have been steadily growing since being created four years ago,” said Doug Mertz, Director of Young Companies. “We continue to attract more and more outstanding students and I couldn’t be more proud of this year’s group.”
Their training culminates in spring performances for both the acting and musical companies, and staged readings for the young playwrights. The young technical theatre production company works on both of these events.
This year the Young Acting Company will be doing a performance of Escape from Happiness by George F. Walker directed by John Kirkpatrick, while the Young Musical Company will be appearing in the 10thanniversary of The Winter’s Tale Project by Bridget Ryan and Chris Wynters directed by Bridget Ryan, with Musical Director Stephen Delano and Choreographer Cindy Kerr.

The Showcase for the Acting and Musical Companies marks the end of their formal training program as they will begin rehearsals for their end-of-year shows the following week. The students have been working with their amazing faculty (Shannon Boyle, Stephen Delano, Jackie Pooke, Linda Rubin and Kate Ryan) since September on acting, singing, speech, dance and movement. Since January they have focused on material that they might present at auditions for post-secondary schools or theatrical organizations. This showcase highlights some of that material.
