The show is set in the 1930s. Ladies (and Gents) did not have tattoos. Please let the Director know you have them and please let her know that you are capable of hiding them in the audition. Many of the outfits for the ladies will be sleeveless. Please take that into consideration.
- The audition will comprise of the following:
- A Cole Porter Song – Bring sheet music or Karaoke track. We will have a pianist, CD player and an MP3 plug-in. No A Cappella. Please do not sing along to another vocal recording. Self-accompaniment is not permitted. Since we are seeing so many people, please be prepared to sing just one verse and chorus.
- You may be asked to cold read some scenes from the script
- Dance/Movement Audition (this won’t be “scary”) – Dress to move (everyone is required to do a dance/movement audition regardless of the role they are auditioning for – this is a dance-filled show). There will be a “beginner/easy” session as well as a more advanced one. There is also a separate tap audition. Not everyone is required to do the tap audition, but feel free to stay. Please bring shoes you can dance in (jazz runners, jazz oxfords, or ordinary running shoes). Bring tap shoes ONLY if you have them – don’t run out and buy them.
- You will be asked to book BOTH a Vocal and a Dance time.
- Please bring any conflict dates you have to the audition.
- Please bring a current headshot and performing résumé.
- Copies of the script are available for reading at Walterdale. Contact the Theatre Administrator at walterph@telus.net to sign one out. Copies of the script are also available at Theatre Alberta – please call ahead.
