Props Master/ Head of Props and Props Assistant
The Canadian Badlands Passion Play is currently accepting applications for a Props Master/Head of Props and a Props Assistant for the summer of 2013. The contract would run from May 6th to July 14th 2013.
The Props team consists of: a Props Master, a Props Assistant and Production Volunteers.
Job Description For Props Master/Head of Props:
• Oversee, and are responsible for, the procurement or production of, inventory, care and maintenance of all props associated with the production.
• Continuously take into consideration the props from the script, the directors desires, rehearsal notes from Stage Management or are assigned by the Production Director, or Designers and ensure that they are available on time, and within budgetary requirements.
• Ensure that selected props suit the style and overall design, and that they accurately reflect the production’s time period and culture.
• Interpret drawings and designs produced for the production into Technical designs, then Build and Install prop elements for use by performers and Directors.
• Oversee the staff, and the smooth running, of the property department, working to high standards of accuracy and detail.
• Design & manufacture new build props for the production
• Repair and/or rebuild old props from the production as necessary
• Draw up complete properties lists for the production and , and liase with the Stage Management team to set up and label the properties lockers, tables, and shelves which are used during production.
• Source and purchase props that can not, or should not, be built for the production in house.
• prepare the overall production schedule for their department, and work with other members of the team to produce the day to day schedules.
• work closely with their props team and other artists, to oversee and coordinate the construction and completion of props builds.
• attend regular rehearsals, in order to note props’ placement and use, and any change in action that affects props
• The role may involve significant manual labor and can be physically demanding.
• They must be aware of the requirements of the health and safety legislation and procedures relevant to their role and be responsible for expressing any safety concerns that are observed and assisting to rectify them.
Job Description For Props Assistant:
• Assisting the Props Master in Building, Technically Designing and installing prop elements as described in the script, assigned by the Production Director, and those written into the rehearsal notes by Stage Management

The Canadian Badlands Passion Play is one of Canada’s largest outdoor theatrical events. Now in its 19th season, the company annually depicts the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ in dramatic form. An epic story told on an epic scale, this year’s production features a creative retelling of the Gospel of John. The script will be performed by a mixed professional/volunteer cast of approximately 200 actors in a 2700-seat outdoor amphitheatre.
