Feb 22 – 24, 2013
Cost – $125 (deadline February 15, 2013)
**Early bird $100 (deadline January 15, 2013)
Come and explore the physical style of theatre that gave slapstick comedy its name at a 3-day Commedia dell’Arte workshop with director/educator Mike Griffin.
This workshop will teach a traditional approach to Commedia dell’Arte passed on from Commedia Master Antonio Fava. It will begin with the physical body of each of the Commedia characters and their specific gesture, stance and locomotion. Participants will have the opportunity to work with each of the four character types and their masks, including: The Servants, The Old Men, The Lovers, and The Capitano. Once the physical foundation of each character is discovered, participants will take the next step of characterization through interaction in improvisations and scenarios. Time will also be dedicated to exploring the physical comedy of Commedia through lazzi (comic bits of action) and using traditional slapsticks.
