Call for Submissions (Calgary): Cultural Leaders Legacy Artist Awards – Calgary Arts Development

Nominations Open: Calgary Catholic Immigration Society New Canadian Artist Award & SANDSTONE City Builder Award.

Nominations are now open for the Cultural Leaders Legacy Artist Awards, established by Calgary 2012 and its co-chairs, Doug and Lois Mitchell. The nomination deadline is Friday, January 4, 2013. Award recipients will be announced at the Mayor’s Lunch for Arts Champions on Thursday, February 21, 2013.

Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) New Canadian Artist Award – $5,000 Cash Award

This award was established to recognize that artists from all parts of the world enrich Calgary’s arts sector. This award recognizes and supports an individual artist who, due to their cultural background and relatively recent arrival to Canada, finds themself facing communication barriers, difficulties in transferring relevant credentials and isolation from the Calgary arts community.  

Nominees for the CCIS New Canadian Artist Award must meet all the following criteria:
– Have lived in Canada less than 3 years
– Be a Calgary resident
– Be eligible to work in Canada
– Be committed to pursuing their artistic work while living in Calgary
– Be currently practicing their artistic discipline on some level

SANDSTONE City Builder Award – $5,000 Cash Award

This award was established to recognize artists and/or organizations that make Calgary a better place to live through the arts. This award recognizes and supports those individuals and groups who are committed to enriching Calgary through an artistic practice or arts program(s) driven by a social impact outcome.

Nominees for the SANDSTONE City Builder Award must meet all the following criteria:
– Be a Calgary resident
– Be making a social impact via their artistic practice or arts program

Doug and Lois Mitchell Outstanding Calgary Artist Award – DEADLINE FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2013

This award was established to honour artists who are lauded for their work in the national and/or international arenas and choose to make Calgary their home. Regardless of career length, these artists are acknowledged by their peers around the world for the caliber of their work and their contributions to the arts. This award is an opportunity for Calgarians to celebrate our own.

Nominees for the Doug and Lois Mitchell Outstanding Calgary Artist Award must meet all the following criteria:
– Hold Calgary as their primary place of residence
– Be a professional artist, as defined by the Canada Council for the Arts (see guidelines for full definition)

Enbridge Emerging Artist Award – DEADLINE FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 2013

This award was established to recognize up-and-coming, Calgary-based artists. The award recognizes that a thriving Calgary arts community includes artists who choose to live and build their careers in Calgary from the onset.

Nominees for the Enbridge Emerging Artist Award must meet all the following criteria:
– Be a Calgary resident since the beginning of 2012
– Have an artistic career that has not exceeded 5 years
– Be currently pursuing their artistic work in Calgary

MacLachlan Family Community Beacon Award – DEADLINE FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2013

This award was established to recognize artists who connect people from a diverse array of disciplines, practices and generations, for the purposes of developing engagement and artistic opportunities in the community at large. This award recognizes an individual who serves as a beacon to both their artistic peers and to the broader public, and in turn enriches the arts and the city.

Nominees for the MacLachlan Family Community Beacon Award must meet all of the following criteria:
be a Calgary resident
– Be currently pursuing artistic endeavours in Calgary
