Putting it to Paper: Splash Writing for New Playwrights with David van Belle
Sunday, November 4
1:00 – 5:00 p.m.| Studio B, RDC Arts Centre
The workshop officially launches the 2012-13 installment of Scripts at Work (SAW), the play development series in Red Deer that sees beginning and emerging playwrights mentored by theatre professionals. Led by Calgary-based playwright, director and actor David van Belle, Putting it to Paper is a fantastic opportunity for local writers. Van Belle also serves as the co-artistic director of Ghost River Theatre in Calgary and his new play, Everything Is Terribly Nice Here, opens Ghost River’s 2012-2013 season this December.
“This is a perfect opportunity to learn about the creative process,” says Lynda Adams co-chair of SAW and a theatre instructor at RDC. “We all have to start somewhere and David’s workshop will be a great inspiration for those writers who wonder how they can overcome writers block or build up the courage to just get started on a project.”
The four-hour writing-focused workshop is for new playwrights and will give participants useful tools to generate interesting new material quickly. Writers often have trouble overcoming doubt and feel a resistance to begin the writing process. This workshop will tackle those challenges head on in a fun and enjoyable environment with other writers.
Cost of the workshop is $20. Attendance is on a first come first served basis and is limited to 16 participants. To register for the workshop, contact Lynda Adams at 403.343.4054 or lynda.adams@rdc.ab.ca.
