Short lists for PGC’s Carol Bolt Award, as well as the New Musical Award, and the New Comedy Award, were released today by their respective juries:
Carol Bolt Award for Playwrights – 2012 Short List
This award is given annually for the best work premiered by a PGC-member, which has premiered in the past year. JURY: Florence Gibson MacDonald (Chair), Catherine Banks, and Cynthia Zimmerman.
New Musical Award – 2012 Short List
This award is given annually for a new musical work by a PGC-member, which has not yet had a premiere production. JURY: Paul Ledoux (Chair), Mel Atkey, Jim Betts, and Adam Brazier.
Sharon Bajer and Joseph Aragon (MB) for Hersteria,
Lorne Elliot (PQ) for Jamie Rowsell Lives, and
Hiro Kanagawa and (David MacIntyre, composer) (BC) for Tom Pinkerton: The Ballad of Butterfly’s Son.
New Comedy Award – 2012 Short List
This award is given annually for a new comedy by a PGC-member, which has not yet had a premiere production. JURY: Norm Foster (Chair), Chris Earle, Klaus Schuller and Naomi Snieckus.
Damien Atkins (ON) for Michael Rising,
Michael Grant (ON) for Shorthanded, and
Evan Tsitsias (ON) for Aftershock.
The winners within each awards’ category will be announced at PGC’s Inaugural Awards Event on October 22nd at Stage West in Mississauga, along with the presentation of PGC’s Post-Secondary Playwriting Competition Winners – Leah Jane Esau, for Disappeared, and runner-up Maureen Gualtieri for The Green Man; and Theatre Ontario’s 2012 Maggie Bassett Award winner – Dave Carley.
