Girls Gone Wilde Call for Submissions:
Urban Curvz Theatre and Alberta Playwright’s Network are thrilled to present Girls Gone Wilde: A Late Night Cabaret as a part of Urban Curvz’ Riveter Series!
There is a notable absence of female presence in current stories found in books, television, movies and theatre. Strong female characters and perspectives are the exception rather than the norm in the majority of stories consumed in popular culture. Urban Curvz, through The Riveter Series, seeks to counter this imbalance by providing a platform for female representation both in the stories produced and in the artists involved.
We are currently accepting submissions from emerging and transitioning female playwrights.
The criteria for submissions draws from the Bechdel Test:
• pieces must feature two or more female characters
• the characters must speak to each other, and
• they must speak to each other about something other than a man.
(If you are interested in learning more about the Bechdel Test check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLF6sAAMb4s)
Playwrights whose pieces are chosen for inclusion in the Cabaret will have the opportunity to work with a dramaturge (provided by APN) to further develop their piece.
