The Colony: April 8 – 27, 2013

The Banff Playwrights Colony is proud to announce that Mieko Ouchi will be the 2013 Senior Playwright in Residence. Mieko is not only an accomplished playwright whose Governor General’s Award-nominated work is widely produced across North America. She is a skilled actor, a fine director, a much-lauded filmmaker, and co-artistic director of Edmonton’s Concrete Theatre, one of Canada’s leading theatres for young audiences. A past Colony attendee, Mieko will be present throughout the 2013 Banff Playwrights Colony to work on her own writing projects, offer mentorship and guidance to participants, and lead discussions on topics relevant to the artists attending the sessions.
“Mieko is a multi-talented theatre artist,” says Colony Program Director Brian Quirt, “and we’re delighted to welcome her back to the colony in this senior role. Her commitment to fostering theatre in Alberta as a writer, director, and teacher has been inspiring, and her range of accomplishments captures precisely the type of artist we’re eager to have at the Colony: deeply dedicated to theatrical writing, boldly exploring stories and ideas both historical and contemporary, and an international career that is firmly anchored in her region. I know she will make an outstanding contribution to next year’s Colony.”
