On Tuesday, August 21st, I served as a moderator for a Fringe Forum panel discussion entitled “Fringers: Y U No Tour AB?” co-presented by Theatre Alberta and the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta (ATAA) at the 2012 Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival.
The theme of the panel was touring professional theatre in Alberta – why isn’t there more of it and whether there were opportunities that should be explored. We brought together representatives from two regional presenting theatres and from two creation companies with a history of touring. These panelists included:
- Alida Lowe, Producing Director, Burnt Thicket Theatre (Calgary)
- Andrea Martinuk, Theatre Manager, The MacLab Centre for the Arts (Leduc)
- Lawrie Seligman, Director of Cultural Services, Horizon Stage (Spruce Grove)
- Thomas Usher, Artistic Director, Prime Stock Theatre (Red Deer)
It was a great discussion – the variety of perspectives offered by our panelists made for a really insightful hour, and I learned a tonne! And – if you missed the event – now you can too…
CJSR FM88 recorded the panel discussion and will be broadcasting the discussion on Thursday, August 30th at 12 noon during “Soul of the City” (an arts-based radio program that looks at what feeds the cultural life of the city). You can either listen to the broadcast on 88.5 FM (in the Edmonton area) or download their app for iPhone or Android.
Hope you will take in this fascinating little discussion on touring theatre in Alberta!
