Workshop (Calgary): Devised Production Intensive – Ghost River Theatre

Ghost River Devised Production Intensive
May 5-25, 2013, Calgary AB

Ghost River Theatre, Canada’s company for innovative, original and highly theatrical performance creation, invites interested professional and emerging artists and educators of various disciplines to Calgary for the first ever national Ghost River Devised Production Intensive May 5 to 25 at the Pumphouse Theatre in Calgary.

Led by Co-Artistic Directors Eric Rose and David van Belle, the intensive will take participants through the unique artistic practices Ghost River Theatre is forging in the creation of such shows as The Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst and The Highest Step in the World. Open to adventurous artists in all media (including theatre designers, dramaturges, writers, performers, dancers, visual artists, musicians, video artists), the intensive will foster an innovative, collaborative environment where participants will develop, learn and experiment with new tools for creative expression while building a production together. The intensive demands rigorous participation from individuals through hands-on exercises, idea generation and rehearsal, culminating in four public ‘sketchbook’ presentations taking place at the Pumphouse Theatre.

The intensive also includes mini workshops about the business of theatre such as marketing/publicity, grant writing, and project design, enhancing participants’ ability to successfully produce their own work independently. It will also build a national network of artists who are versed in a common process and interested in future collaborations.

The cost of the workshop is $900, billets and financial support may be available.

To apply please submit:
-Contact information (including mailing address, email and phone number)
-An updated CV
-Letter of Interest (1 page max, outlining your program of work/career goals, and your interest in the intensive)

A telephone interview may be required.

Early application is encouraged to enable Ghost River to support participant’s funding applications.
