Job (Whitehorse, YK): Technical and Operations Director – Yukon Arts Centre

Technical and Operations Director (Production Manager)

The Yukon Arts Centre has an opportunity for a versatile, dynamic and personable individual to lead the technical services team.

The Yukon Arts Centre is located in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, a community recognized nationally for the vitality of its diverse arts community. The Yukon Arts Centre operates the only class “A” Public Art Gallery in the north: a 418-seat proscenium arch Mainstage, a 50+ seat Studio and the Old Fire Hall, a downtown multi-use facility. YAC presents 24 or more performances each year consisting of a mixture of theatre, dance and music. YAC also hosts presentation seasons by Whitehorse Concerts (Classical), Jazz Yukon, and the Yukon Film Society, and is home to a number of festivals including the Kluane Mountain Blue Grass Festival and the Frostbite Music Festival. The Public Gallery mounts between ten and fifteen exhibitions each year and also operates a Community Gallery and a Youth Gallery.

The Technical Director is responsible for technical services at the Mainstage and Studio and provides technical leadership to the Old Fire Hall team. The Technical Director and his team provide technical support to the Art Gallery. The Yukon Arts Centre also programmes into the smaller communities throughout Yukon, and the Technical Director will support that programming as required.

  • supervise maintenance of all stage equipment,
  • manage infrastructure and systems projects,
  • oversee health and safety programmes,
  • develop and train a corps of casual stage crew,
  • develop and train a corps of volunteer stage crew.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate of a post secondary live performance technical programme with at least five years working experience.

Key strengths will include leadership skills, a willingness to work in a flexible team environment and the ability to work with a wide range of external and internal clients. • strong computer skills in either MAC or PC or ideally both,
