BSMT Dwellers Playwriting Competition – NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS
Theatre BSMT in conjunction with Alberta Playwright’s Network (APN) announces a new and exciting playwriting competition!
Applicants must be an Alberta resident who is an emerging playwright. Theatre BSMT defines an emerging playwright as one who is actively pursuing a career in theatre or writing and has some experience and/or specialized training in theatre or writing.
The winning submission will receive a full production by Theatre BSMT (directed by Barrett Hileman, Co-Director of Theatre at Rocky Mountain College). The selected play will also receive dramaturgical assistance and will be workshopped with the assistance of APN in preparation for its production. In addition, APN will also provide a one-year membership to APN for the winning playwright.
The successful applicant will be selected by mid December 2012 and workshops will run from late December 2012 to March 2013. Rehearsals will run from March 2013 to May 2013 evenings and weekends only. The show will then have a one week run at Theatre Junction GRAND’s Studio Space in May 2013 (exact dates TBA).
Application Criteria:
– Applicants must be an Alberta resident
– The play should not have been previously produced in its current format
– The play can have no more than 4 characters
– The play must be 45 to 90 minutes in length
Scripts written by more than one author are acceptable.

– A cover letter describing the playwright(s) background and a brief synopsis of the play
– Resume(s) of the playwright(s)
