News: Rapid Fire Theatre Announces New Improv Festival

Rapid Fire Theatre (RFT) is proud to announce its inaugural festival celebrating long-form improv. The BONFIRE Festival runs from Tuesday, April 10th until Sunday April 15th at the Varscona Theatre.

Watch all your favourites from the RFT Ensemble experiment with long-form improv formats as they bring something completely new to Edmonton’s improv scene!

“A bonfire is a place where we share stories with loved ones, and the first annual BONFIRE Festival will continue this nocturnal tradition, bringing people together to share ideas and laughs,” RFT Artistic Director Amy Shostak says. “With BONFIRE, we seek to revisit some of the staples of long-form improvisation, while allowing our ensemble to explore improv territories unknown!”

Rapid Fire sends performers to international festivals year-round, where they experience tons of great long-form improv. BONFIRE allows us to bring some of these great ideas home to Edmonton. Regardless of where the idea originates, it will all be brand new to our audiences.

There will be a variety of genre-focused works including a Tom Waits inspired show, a Vinyl-Cafe-inspired show, as well as performances inspired by other art forms like jazz music, painting, live remixing and video. There will also be a ton of special guests including Edmonton’s musician Mitchmatic, St. Albert Children’s Theatre’s The Kidprovisors and Neil Grahn. We will celebrate long-form improv deep into the night!

Festival passes are only $25, available at Tix on the Square.
