Everyone wants Guido. Guido wants…Everything? Nothing? He’s not so sure. He does have a movie to make, a mistress to avoid, a muse to satisfy, an agent to placate and a wife to please. Guido must find what he has lost along the way to get what he wants. NINE is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

The auditions will comprise of the following:

  • Prepared Musical Piece – Bring sheet music or Karaoke track. No A Cappella. Please do not sing along to another vocal recording. Contemporary musical theatre.
  • Readings from the script o Choreography Session – Dress to move.
  • You will be asked to book a Vocal and a Dance time.

Please bring any conflict dates you have to the audition. Headshots and résumés are recommended but not required.
Copies of the script are available for reading at Walterdale. Contact the Theatre Administrator at walterph@telus.net to sign one out.
Walterdale is a volunteer/member organization. We cannot engage Equity performers.

NINE OFFERS THE ARTISTIC TEAM SOME LEEWAY IN GENDER CASTING. SEVERAL ROLES CAN BE PLAYED BY EITHER MALE OR FEMALE ACTORS AND THE SCRIPT IS ADJUSTED DEPENDING ON WHO THE TEAM CASTS. THIS IS WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Male: Guido Contini – the film director, 40ish – Strong Singer, Actor and Mover

Female:
Luisa Contini – Guido’s wife, 30s – Strong Singer and Actor
Carla Albanese – Guido’s mistress, 20s – Strong Singer, Actor and Dancer
Claudia Nardi – the actress (muse) 30s – Strong Singer and Actor
Guido’s Mother – 40 and up – Strong Singer and Actor
Our Lady of the Spa – 30 and up – Strong Singer
Mama Maddelena – Chief of the chambermaids – Strong Singer
Sarraghina – a voluptuous whore – Strong Singer and Dancer
The Italians – Diana, Maria, and Annabella
The Germans – Heidi von Sturm, Ilsa von Hesse
A Nun

Male or Female:
Little Guido – 9 years old (short teens welcome!) – Strong singer and actor (boys and girls will be looked at for this role) – may be double cast
Liliane/Maurice La Fleur – Guido’s producer, 30 and up – Strong Singer/Actor
Lina/Leo Darling – La Fleur’s mysterious accomplice, 20 and up – Strong Actor
Stephanie/Stefan Necrophorus – a critic, 20s and up – Strong Singer/Actor
The Italians – Francesca/o, Guilietta/Giulio, Renata/o, Gondolier
The Germans – Olga/Otto von Sturm, Gretchen/Hans von Krupf
Little Guido’s School Mates – 3

Please note: The Italians and Germans compose the ensemble for the show – strong singing ability (particularly in parts) and ability to move/dance are what we are looking for. As well, ability to do Italian, German, Greek and/or French accents or speak in any of those languages is an asset.

For those with children auditioning: please be advised that the show does deal with some adult topics so judge whether your child has the maturity to be in this show.
