News: University of Alberta Department of Drama Mourns Loss of Student

Update: A memorial service for Tristan Mi will be held Thursday, January 26 at 9:30 a.m. in the Wild Rose Room @ Lister Conference Centre (116 Street and 87 Avenue.) 

The University of Alberta Department of Drama announced the sad and unexpected passing of Tristan (Tian) Mi, a fourth-year student in the Department of Drama’s BFA Acting program on January 19. He was 22.

Born and raised in the People’s Republic of China, Tristan was accepted into the BFA Acting program at the age of 19. As it was his final year of study, Tristan was a member of an ensemble of 12 students performing in the university’s 2011-12 Studio Theatre Season. 

In a statement, the University noted: 

The students, staff, instructors and faculty members of the Department of Drama feel a profound sense of loss and mourn the passing of a talented and vibrant young man who contributed greatly to our close-knit creative and academic community.
