The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation was established in 2003 to celebrate excellence in the arts and to underline the importance of the arts in Alberta. The Foundation administers two programs of awards to Alberta artists.
The Emerging Artist awards program, which is presented in alternate years to the Foundation’s Distinguished Artist Awards, was established to recognize promising artists, early in their careers, no matter what age they may be. The applicants must have completed their training and should have achieved recognition by established artists in their specialty for a modest body of work. Applications from these emerging artists require appraisals by two peers from within the specialty.
Up to ten awards of $10,000 each will be presented by the Lieutenant Governor at an awards ceremony in Government House in Edmonton next Spring.
Guidelines for the award applications are now posted on the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation’s website.
All applications, together with the supporting materials and endorsements must be submitted to the Foundation office by the closing date of February 10, 2012. For the first time, applicants will have the option of completing their submissions on line through the Foundation’s web site. This option has been made available for the emerging artists, as many of the developing artists are completely at ease with this technology.
A panel of three adjudicators will review all applications and work with The Banff Centre in making recommendations to the Foundation Board. The final decision on the award recipients for 2012 will be made by the Foundation Board.
