The Canola Project is an interdisciplinary, site specific performance piece that aims to bring community together through theatrical presentations that illuminate the effect that farm practices and their resulting commodities have had on the human and geographical landscape of Central Alberta.

The Canola Project is the brainchild of a group of Albertan artists seeking to engage the communities in which they live.

The Canola plant began as an initial source for investigation as we surveyed the increasing number of canola fields in Alberta over the past 14 years. Genetically modified (GMO) canola is a metaphor that inspired us to examine how constantly developing food commodities and the farming practices that create the food, affect our ever changing lifestyles and the places we inhabit.

Some of the artists behind The Canola Project are: Lynda Adams, Mieko Ouchi, Bretta Gerecke, Gerry Trentham and many more.
