Returning to One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo for a 5th consecutive year, Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre is proud to offer an opportunity for artists to create original work in unusual spaces. This year, tour sites will include The Calgary Tower and at least one other landmark location.
The Site-Specific Performance Tours put a wide variety of multidisciplinary performances in unusual spaces – stairwells, rooftops, storage rooms, parking lots and more – asking artists to re-imagine these sites as an inspiration for original work.
Artists are asked to create an original, self-contained 5-7 minute performance/experience. Swallow-a-Bicycle is seeking artists with an interest and understanding of the creation of new work, and who wish to challenge their current creative practice via artistic experimentation.
These performance tours were formerly known as Freak Show. For more information about previous productions of Freak Show, click here.
To be considered for this project, please submit a description (maximum two pages) of:
- Your creative practice
- Your experience with performance creation
- Your reasons for wanting to participate in the project(s)
- Your interest in site-specific performance / creation
You may also submit additional materials, including: CV, video, reviews, surprises.
NOTE: These tours are a platform for new, original performances inspired by the site in which they are performed. In your application, we are interested in your overall artistic practice, not in the details of the performance you hope to do.
Participating artists will receive an honorarium. Participants will be required to attend a professional development workshop on site-specific creation in October or November 2011, dates to be determined.
Submission deadline: Friday, October 7, 2011 @ 5:00 pm
