Urban Curvz Theatre announces new artistic team

Calgary, AB – Urban Curvz’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce a new artistic team for the 2011/2012 season. The exciting new team consists of the talents of Vanessa Sabourin as Artistic Director and Jacqueline Russell as Artistic Producer.

New Artistic Director, Vanessa Sabourin, is a professional theatre artist originally from Edmonton. As an actor she has worked extensively throughout Alberta most recently being seen in Calgary in The Penelopiad at Alberta Theatre Projects and Nevermore at Vertigo Theatre. Vanessa previously worked as program coordinator for Theatre Alberta and is a co-founder and co-director for The Maggie Tree, an independent, female-based theatre company in Edmonton. She is a graduate of the Grant MacEwan Theatre Arts program, studied at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and completed an arts administration internship at the Centre for Performance Research in Aberystwyth, Wales.

Jacqueline Russell, Urban Curvz’s new Artistic Producer, is a director, performer, playwright, and producer. A graduate of the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting Program, Jacqueline has toured across Western Canada with her feminist play Raunch (with co-creator Alice Nelson). Last year Jacqueline produced as well as directed for “Girls gone Widle”, a festival of new work from female Canadian playwrights. Jacqueline has also worked extensively in Theatre for Young Audiences and will remain the Artistic Producer of Evergreen Theatre where she directs and produces educational children’s theatre that tour across the Alberta.

 “Urban Curvz is very pleased to have the experience, dedication and talent of these two wonderful artists to build on the previous work of Jessica Dollard, Kathryn Waters and Michelle Kneale,” says Pamela Halstead, Artistic Director of Lunchbox Theatre and the Urban Curvz Board Director managing the transition. “Urban Curvz saw incredible critical success last season with its world premiere production of Catherine Banks’ It is Solved by Walking and the new team is anxious to finalize their plans for the 2011/2012 season.”

The 2011/2012 Urban Curvz season will be performed at the Pumphouse Theatre and will feature the fundraising cabaret Curvilicious on Monday, March 19th, 2012 and a feature presentation running from April 27th to May 5th, 2012. Full season details will be announced by the new team once finalized.

Joining the Urban Curvz Board for the 2011/2012 season are well known Calgary theatre artists Lindsay Burns and Shari Wattling.
