Artistic Director Bob White to Become a Doctor.
Calgary, AB, May 16 – The University of Calgary is conferring Artistic Director Bob White with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
At this year’s University of Calgary’s convocations ten individuals will be awarded the highest accolade in the institution: an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in recognition of their extraordinary achievements and contributions to the community. Among them is ATP Artistic Director Bob White, who will be receiving his honorary degree on June 12, 2008.
Mr. White has been part of the cultural landscape of Calgary for over twenty years. His influence in the development of the performing arts is felt on a national scale through his direction and artistic guidance of ATP’s season and his tireless efforts in creating, advocating and producing new Canadian plays through the Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian Plays. Mr. White further branded his commitment to the arts by envisioning the ATP LEGACY program: an outreach initiative providing in-depth connections between professional artists and education institutions via teaching guides, classroom visits, internship programs and special performance matinees, all specifically oriented toward heightening each student’s experience with the performing arts.
“It is truly humbling to be recognized next to these other recipients, great people who have contributed greatly to our community. The Arts are an integral part of bettering our society but often overlooked. The fact that the University of Calgary recognizes that the arts are central to our society is a great comfort to me. To be awarded this Honorary Doctorate of Laws for my part in contributing to our cultural heritage is one of the highest honors that I can think of,” says Bob White.
Mr. White will be joining nine other individuals during this year’s convocations. Convocation ceremonies take place in the Jack Simpson Gymnasium at theUniversity of Calgary.
