Stage Directions 2008 High School Theatre Honors Program

LAS VEGAS, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Stage Directions magazine, celebrating its 20th year serving the theatre industry on all levels of productions, proudly announces that nominations are now be taken for its annual salute to high school theatre, the 2008 High School Theatre Honors Program. Schools located within the United States and Canada are eligible.

"A great program has to be an over-achiever," says Stage Directions Editor Jacob Coakley. "Not only is the program charged with staging a dynamic, good-looking and entertaining show, but it also has to lay a solid foundation of theatre skills that will serve its students no matter what future course of study they pursue."

Nominations are open to Stage Directions subscribers and others in the theatre community who wish to participate by going to: http://www.stage-directions.com and filling out the nomination form. Winners will then be selected by the editors and writers of Stage Directions along with other editors from Timeless Communications. Nominations are open now through July 24.

According to Stage Directions Publisher Terry Lowe, "The 2008 High School Theatre Honors Program goes to high schools that have taken their theatre program to state-of-the-art status in terms of number of productions per year, the size of those productions; whether there is a dedicated theatre or performing arts center on campus and, most importantly, depth of theatre arts program in preparing students for the variety of opportunities available in theatre."

The 2008 High School Theatre Honors Program recipients will be announced in a special section in the September issue of Stage Directions and each honoree will receive a story on their program.

"Theatre programs and facilities at the secondary school level have exploded over the past decade. We are happy to be able to put the spotlight on six of these great schools. We are sure it will help build awareness for other programs that aspire to this level," Lowe added.
