(Calgary, AB)
Quest Theatre announced today that Duval Lang, one of Canada's most experienced and well respected innovators
of professional theatre for young audiences, will step down as Artistic Director of Quest Theatre at the end of the
2008/09 season.
For over thirty years Duval has been dedicated to building vibrant and engaging theatre for young people. In
1996, Duval was awarded the Harry and Martha Cohen Award for Significant and Sustained Contribution to
Theatre in Calgary. He has worked with hundreds of artists both as a director and as a performer. His work has
been seen on stages all over Calgary, including Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects, Theatre Junction,

Duval is the President of ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television and Radio Artists) Alberta.
Speaking on behalf of the Board, Elrose Klause, Chair of the Quest Theatre Board of Directors says, “After his
many years of service to the organization, we respect Duval’s decision to move on to new projects. He has served
us superbly as Artistic Director. We are delighted that Duval will continue to work with us as we transition to a
new Artistic Director during the upcoming season.”
Rose Brow, General Manager of Quest Theatre, says of her long-time colleague, “Duval is a master of the art of
creative play. His humour, playfulness and infinite respect for young people provides an atmosphere for artistic
expression that is rarely duplicated. Although we will miss Duval greatly, we are confident that he will continue
to be a champion of Quest Theatre and Theatre for Young Audiences in the years to come.”
Duval co-founded Quest Theatre in the summer of 1984. Since then, the company has produced 86 touring
productions and performed for over 1.1 million young people and their families. In 1992, Quest Theatre began the
Artists in School Residency program, and to date has conducted over 298 residencies for over 76,656 participants.
In addition, Quest Theatre operates a fall and winter Theatre School and an Annual Summer Drama Camp. The
company supports emerging artists, technicians and playwrights and regularly commissions and develops new
plays.
