The City-Region Studies Centre Artists on Arts and Culture short film
The City-Region Studies Centre recently hosted a successful panel discussion on the topic “Participation in the Arts: Where are the adults?” The panelists—Tony Luppino (Art Gallery of Alberta), Jennifer Faulkner (Alberta Ballet), Linda Huffman (Edmonton 2007 Cultural Capital of Canada), Rob Shields (University of Alberta), and Julian Mayne (Fringe Theatre Adventures)—provided stimulating commentary on issues of participation in the arts through childhood and adulthood, particularly in the Alberta Capital Region. Following the discussion, our mediator, the Edmonton Journal’s Elizabeth Withey, guided a lively audience Q&A.
CRSC also worked in conjunction with ASPARAGUSGREEN.CA and the Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta to produce a short film which was shown at the event. It features local artists expressing their own thoughts on participation in arts and culture. The film is about nine minutes long, and can be viewed at http://www.crsc.ualberta.ca/participationintheartspanel.cfm
The City-Region Studies Centre is currently fine-tuning our arts and culture research proposal and exploring our options for moving forward with the project.
