Below is an excerpt from impact!

Happy New Year PACT members!

I wanted to drop you a note in this first impact! of 2008 to wish you all the best in the coming year - and to share some happy news.

One of PACT's founding and most active members Mallory Gilbert, has been honoured as a Member of the Order of Canada for having "made an exceptional contribution to Canada or Canadians". Anyone who knows Mallory's history would of course agree. She not only helmed the Tarragon as General Manager for 34 years, she was also a tireless worker for PACT, on the Board, as President and as a member.

Some of you may know that Mallory came to Canada in 1967. She became a Canadian citizen in 2004 when "George Bush finally pushed me over the edge". Of course most of us already considered Mallory a Canadian anyway. We are also aware of what a true mentor she has been to administrators and artists in this country. That is why we (in partnership with the Tarragon) celebrated her contributions last June with the first annual Mallory Gilbert Leadership Award, presented to Jenny Munday.

Mallory isn't at the Tarragon anymore but little has changed. She is working with several small Toronto companies, either as a consultant or a board member.  As a freelancer and Lifetime Honorary Member of PACT, she continues to attend Region 5 meetings, to raise her voice to advocate for the theatre, and to go to every show she can. It's just that now she can do it with a "C.M." after her name, and a medal on her shoulder.

Congratulations and love to Mallory.
