Name or Organization: All Nations Theatre and the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary seek volunteers

All Nations Theatre is supporting the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary in presenting Headlines Theatre forum theatre play Shattering on Nov. 22. We are in desperate need of 6 volunteers to help with the set-up and take down of the set on that day.

I would like to ask you to please consider volunteering or connecting with others in your network that may be able to give some time to this exciting event.

Name or Organization:

Explore Edmonton Theatre with Theatre 6-Pack

Details:

Theatre 6-Pack returns for the 2008/09 season; six companies present dynamic productions in a “best-of-the-bunch season” that suits theatre lovers and newcomers alike. We are pleased to announce that Teatro La Quindicina has replaced Fringe Theatre Adventures as the sixth member. Theatre 6-Pack offers 6 fabulous productions from Edmonton’s vibrant theatre scene. Act now before the limited number of passes sell out! Passes GO ON SALE July 2 for only $90.00 at TIX on the Square.

This year’s diverse programming includes five new productions and a re-mount of a performance which first hit the stage in Edmonton back in 1985:

The 2008/09 6-Pack season opens with Northern Light Theatre’s production of Mo & Jess Kill Susie by Gary Henderson, where three women wait in the washroom of a deserted building…Two are armed; the third is their hostage… They wait for a phone call that will either save or end the hostage’s life, but the call doesn’t come… It runs September 12 – 21, 2008 in the Third Space (11516 103 St.).

From October 8 – 18, 2008 audiences will be treated to Children of a Lesser god written by Mark Medoff being re-mounted at Walterdale Playhouse (10322 83 Ave.). This Tony-Award winning play will open a whole new world of understanding for the hearing audience and says volumes about communication in any language.

Shadow Theatre presents Grace, from January 22 – February 8, 2009 at The Varscona Theatre (10329 83 Ave.). Four neighbours in a Florida condo are linked by proximity and their own personal beliefs in this provocative tour de force from playwright Craig Wright.

From April 23 – May 3, 2009, Workshop West Theatre presents Stray by Sterling Award-winning playwright Elyne Quan at La Cité Francophone Theatre (8627 91 St.). A family, frozen by an 8-year tragedy. A young man at their door. He claims he’s their presumed-dead son…And then they let him in.

Nevermore, by Jonathan Christenson, is a journey through the scandalous life and hallucinatory creative world of Edgar Allan Poe. Catalyst Theatre (8529 Gateway Boulevard) celebrates the 200th Anniversary of Poe’s birth from May 1 – 16, 2009.

Teatro La Quindicina wraps up the 6-Pack season with A Delightful New Romp by Stewart Lemoine. This brand new comedy in the laugh-filled style of Lemoine hits the stage of The Varscona Theatre (10329 83 Ave.) from July 9 – 25, 2009 and sees some of your Teatro faves return to the annual summer party show.

Theatre 6-Pack is sponsored by CBC Radio.

Green up your act, yo!

Details:

The City of Edmonton is challenging Edmontonians to make at least two changes in their lives by June 2009 that are good for the environment.

As artists and arts administrators we often incorporate environmentally friendly practices into our organizations and work. To a certain extent, economic realities have left us little choice; when every penny counts, reducing the amount of "stuff" we use and reusing as much as we can is a pretty natural solution to making work and making ends meet.

That said, there is still a lot of room in many of our administrative and artistic practices to think and act a little greener.

With that in mind, I encourage you to check out Zero Footprint Edmonton and register your commitment to environmentally friendly practices.

HOW HAVE YOU GREENED UP YOUR ACT?

If you've made changes in your practice or organization that are good for the environment, please send us a note describing the change and the impact it has had. Over the next few months I will share your tips and stories with the rest of the community

Thanks! Alison Turner - EAC

us your ideas to improve our spoken word programming.

Writer's Block - our literary show - features interviews with all
kinds of authors, but we'd like to introduce more local talent and
increase our coverage of local events.  If you are a writer yourself,

We need people to help cover these performances and to increase our
general performing arts content.  If you have any performing arts
experience, or if you'd like to get some, Artslink is a great place to
contribute.

These are just two examples, we also have a news program, a music
magazine, a feminist program and others, all of which would love some
increased support.  If you are interested in getting involved with
