SEARCH RESULTS AND RELATED SEARCHES

Search results are initially displayed as an authoritative list or as a list of items. The example here shows the results obtained through performing a Quick Search using “sun” as the search criteria and searching on the Title field.

Search results are displayed as follows:

  • Total number of Titles that match your search is displayed
  • Total number of Items pertaining to each title is displayed
  • Each Title appears as a “clickable” link.

The results list will display titles in the order in which the records are stored in our catalogue. It may be easier to locate an item by sorting the search results prior to scrolling the list. This is accomplished by clicking the column heading of the field you wish to sort by. Click the same column heading a second time and the sort order will change from ascending to descending.

Once you've found the item you're looking for, details of the record can be viewed by clicking the Title link.

If the item you're looking for is not displayed, either reselect another search option, or click on the Back button on your web browser.

For our example, we will click on “Autumn Sunshine”, and we'll be presented with the screen shown here. This screen displays general information about this particular item.

The Status line will show one of the following:

  • In – item is available
  • Out – item is not available at the moment
  • Collection Item – item is available in a collection. Please do a search for the title of the collection. You will find this title in the Subtitle of the Collection Item.

The Call Num. will tell you where to find the item in the library using the Catalogue Call Number Codes.

The Title is a “clickable” link to more specific information and a description of the play.

Related Searches

After obtaining the results from your search and clicking on the item you wish to view information on, you are able to expand your search based on various components of that item.

In this “Autumn Sunshine” example screen, we see that the Title, Author and Subject appear as links. This means that related searches can be performed on these areas. Clicking on the Author's name will produce a new set of search results based on the same author.

Use the Back button on your web browser or scroll to the top of the screen and use the buttons on the blue bar to perform another search.

Use these search tools to quickly navigate your way through the catalogue to find many associated items to your original search!
