The University of Calgary Faculty of Fine Arts Program of Dance presents the 39th annual Dance Montage Thursday, November 20th until Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 at the University Theatre. Dance Montage presents the creative spirit of community building through the arts. Since its inception in 1969, Dance Montage has integrated beginning dancers and choreographers with experienced professionals to facilitate the creation of new dance work. Dancers of all abilities throughout Calgary audition to be part of this exciting community event and each year’s program is uniquely different. With 13 choreographers and over 100 dancers in the cast, this eclectic presentation incorporates over 10 dance styles including Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Funk, Belly Dance Fusion, House, Ballet and African. Of the many pieces to be interested in this year, Dance Montage Artistic Director Dawn Dymond is particularly excited to see the work of MoMo Mixed Ability Dance Theatre. “I’m really excited to see what is created through this process...and believe it will fit perfectly within the spirit of Montage.” Collaborating with dancers from the university and others in the community MoMo will collectively create a new improvisation based piece for Montage 2008 “MoMo is Calgary's first and only integrated dance theatre and they are bringing surprising and unusual new work to the Calgary arts scene.” Says Pamela Boyd, creator of MoMo. MoMo encourages mixed abilities to come together in creative process. People with physical and mental disabilities/challenges collaborate with other dancers and choreographers.
