What's New at TA

TIME TO GET YOUR ARTSTREK APPLICATION IN—DON'T DELAY!

Keen teens from around the province have been signing up for this year's Artstrek program in droves!  Registration is rolling along - only a limited number of spots remain for Exploration II. Spots are currently available in Exploration I, but we do anticipate a full house for Exploration I as well.   If you want to spend an entire week acting, directing, singing, and making new friends, visit our website to view the brochure and apply online right now and make your summer a dramatic one!

ALBERTAN STUDENTS HAVE EMERGED

This past April marked Theatre Alberta's 8th annual Emerge - an audition event for graduates of Alberta's post-secondary acting programs. This year's Emerge brought 64 graduates together with Alberta's professional artistic, freelance, and casting directors. Both events - in Edmonton and Calgary - were a terrific success! Thanks to the graduates for their hard work and to the 80 professionals who came out to support and welcome Alberta's emerging talent.

Once again Theatre Alberta has been joined by two fabulous summer students who will assist Theatre Alberta with programming in the coming months.  We'd like to send out a warm welcome to Becca Barrington and Janice Hoover.

Becca has joined the Theatre Alberta team as Program Assistant. She is going into her fifth and final year at the U of A as a drama major in their Bachelor of Arts program. Becca is originally from Fort McMurray, but moved to Edmonton to continue her studies. In her spare time Becca enjoys long walks on the beach and cuddling with her cat, Stortini.

Janice is a familar face in the office, she was formerly the Office Administrator. She returns to Theatre Alberta after several years' absence as registrar for this summer's Artstrek program.  Janice is completing her Secondary Education degree in Drama at the University of Alberta, and she can't wait to head down to Red Deer College to watch talented Artstrek students and faculty work their magic on the modern classic You Can't Take It With You.  Janice is an alumni of the Artstrek program from waaaaaay back.

Librarian's Pick

"The Queen Must Die" in Shell Connections 2003
By David FarrPublished by Faber and Faber

A dark but sweet piece which looks at why the English Monarchy is still so powerful and how faintly embarrassing it is to be a politically committed teenager in our modern consumer world.

"All my comedies are set in small closed communities where people live frustrated lives. I call them desperate comedies. They are formed around a desperate idea with desperate people trying to achieve something in a world that does not quite allow them to do what they want"

LIBRARY AND OFFICE HOURS

The library and office will be closed from May 21 - 23 for Victoria Day. The building will be closed and the drop box unavailable. We will reopen on May 24.
