CALL FOR SUPPORT

As a registered charity, Theatre Alberta relies on donations from our generous members and community supporters to sustain our programs and services. Together we ensure the continued success of all things theatrical in Alberta! PLEASE DONATE NOW to ensure we are eligible for the Government of Alberta’s Community Spirit Donation Grant Program, which matches a percentage of the funds we raise. Charitable Tax Receipts will be issued for all donations of $20 or more. There are several easy ways to make a donation: online or over the phone with your credit card. Mail us a cheque. Theatre Alberta is seeking an Artstrek Registrar, Programs Assistant, and Artstrek Supervisorfor the summer of 2011. Applications for Artstrek Supervisors are due this Friday, March 4. Applications for the Artstrek Registrar and Programs Assistant will be accepted until March 28 (or until positions are filled).

GOVERNMENT OF ALBERTA PRESENTS BUDGET 2011

Recently, the Alberta Government presented it's budget for 2011. Lindsay Blackett, Minister  of Alberta Culture and Community Spirit, was pleased to announce that the 2011 Budget will maintain the same level of operational funding our sector had in 2010: $174 million. The total budgeted program expense for Culture and Community Spirit in 2011-12 will be $225 million. More>

PACE SPEARHEADS ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN: I *HEART* AB ARTS

The Professional Arts Coalition of Edmonton (PACE) is spearheading a campaign they are hoping will go viral across Alberta through the involvement of arts organizations and professional artists in our province. Please support this initiative to raise awareness about the importance of Arts and Culture to you as an Albertan. Sign their online petition and support Alberta Arts.

EQUITY'S INDEPENDENT THEATRE REVIEW COMMITTEE LAUNCHES SURVEY

Equity Council's Independent Theatre Review Committee is sending out a national equity member e-survey that scrutinizes the current state of engagement in small-scale theatre. Equity members in good standing are strongly encouraged to respond to the survey from Leger Marketing, which should arrive in their inboxes by March 4th. More>

BILL C-32: THE COPYRIGHT MODERNIZATION ACT

Canadian Conference of the Arts (CCA) participated in a press conference held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to make public Canada's Cultural Industries' joint statement on Bill C-32. The joint statement brings together an unprecedented coalition of organizations from the arts and culture industries representing writers, performers, actors, illustrators, musicians, composers, publishers, poets, playwrights, producers, and songwriters who are all urging Parliamentarians to make changes to Bill C-32. WALTERDALE THEATRE NAMES NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

The Board of Directors of Walterdale Theatre Associates is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Van Tassel as Artistic Director for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons. Sarah is a graduate of the University of Alberta and has been involved with the Walterdale since 2005. More>

2011 ALBERTA SCREENWRITERS INITIATIVE (PRIZE AWARDED TO SCREENWRITER)

2011 marks the fifth year for the Alberta Screenwriters Initiative. The Alberta Association of Motion Picture and Television Unions (AAMPTU) are seeking submissions of feature film scripts of any genre from Alberta based screenwriters. GOVERNMENT OF ALBERTA OFFERS FUNDING TO ALBERTA ARTS DAYS PLANNERS

Alberta Arts Days will occur from September 30 to October 2011. These days were created to encourage a greater love and appreciation for the arts by ensuring that all Albertans have access to a wide range of cultural experiences. To help grow this initiative and encourage broader participation throughout the province, the Government of Alberta will be offering funding to those wishing to plan Alberta Arts Days 2011 events and activities. Those selected to become Feature Celebration Sites are eligible to receive a maximum of $20,000. More>

This year artists and agents are able to apply online for Alberta Showcase 2011. Applications are now being accepted for the 2011 NACL performer training retreat, a week-long structured workshop focusing on physical training, vocal exploration, and the creative methodologies used to develop original and devised performance. Workshop instructors Tannis Kowalchuk, Brett Keyser, and Ker Wells will lead retreat participants through a series of exercises that hone performer craft with a specific emphasis on each participant's personal inquiry into the art of performance.
