URGENT LAST CALL FOR CASINO VOLUNTEERS!

Theatre Alberta's Casino is next Monday and Tuesday, January 17 &18, in Edmonton. We are still in need of volunteers for cashiers, chip runners, countroom staff, and alternates for the Casino.

Being an alternate means you will only be called to work if someone calls in sick - you still receive credit for membership as an alternate even if you're not called to work! You can sign up to be an alternate for a specific position (chip runner, cashier, count room, banker) or as an open alternate for any position that may be needed.

The Baccarat Casino is centrally located on 101 Street and 104 Avenue in Edmonton with plenty of free parking or easy access by bus! Remember - working a casino is safe, fun, easy, and you'll receive on the job training.

Volunteering for the casino is a great way to earn credit for a Theatre Alberta membership, while ensuring we receive vital funding.

Please contact Stephanie at Theatre Alberta at theatreab@theatrealberta.com, or call at 780- 422-8162... we can't wait to hear from you!

Theatre Alberta is seeking individuals with strong leadership abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, and previous Artstrek experience. Applicants must have previously attended Artstrek as a student and have been away from the program for at least one year and be between 19 and 25 years of age.

To apply, send Theatre Alberta your theatre and employment resume(s), cover letter, and headshot/photo. Please note: limited positions are available. More >

Application deadline: March 4, 2010

Psst...For all of you post-secondary students looking for a summer job, there will be a call for applications in February's Buzz for the Artstrek Registrar position.

Play for Literacy on January 27

Family Literacy Day has been held since 1999 to encourage Canadian families to spend at least 15 minutes a day enjoying a learning activity together. This year’s theme is PLAY FOR LITERACY and we love to play!

"Play for Literacy includes all types of play that encourages literacy and numeracy development as well as comprehension skills. Activities including board games, card games and imaginative self-created games are all a fun way to incorporate learning into your everyday life. Games, and the carefree act of playing, provide a fun outlet in which individuals of all ages can engage in activities that inherently provide new learning opportunities to improve one's reading, writing, math and comprehension skills."

The possibilities are endless for creative minds - how about writing a short play with the family, gathering for a play reading, or maybe putting on a basement performance of a children's play. Have fun! More >
