WEEKEND I WORKSHOPS
Intensives: July 3 – 6, 2008
Special Feature – SITI Intensive
July 3 – 6, 2008
Thursday – Sunday 10 am – 5 pm
Instructors: Akiko Aizawa & Leon Ingulsrud from the Saratoga International Theater Institute
Professional actors, directors, designers, musicians, writers, choreographers, and dancers are invited to take part in this specialty workshop which will focus on intensive training in the mornings and cross-disciplinary composition in the afternoons. The methodology of New York’s SITI Company combines Suzuki training, a rigorous physical and vocal discipline for actors striving to restore the wholeness of the body as a tool for theatrical expression; and Viewpoints, a technique for improvisation that allows a group of artists to function together spontaneously and intuitively to quickly generate bold, theatrical work.
Composition will draw from theories in music, painting, and architecture and apply them to the creation of new work. This intensive will be taught at an advanced level for those with experience and education in theatre. SITI’s training is physically challenging; participants should come in good health and be prepared to work hard.

This practical directing course will delve into the unique challenges of working with large acting companies using techniques that are applicable in the classroom, rehearsal hall, and on the mainstage.
