Welcome to Dramaworks 2008
In preparation for its silver anniversary in 2009, Dramaworks goes international in 2008 by extending its reach to bring you the tried and true, and something new. In addition to showcasing the incredible skill that flourishes here on home soil, Theatre Alberta is bringing seeds of New York right to your doorstep. Be a part of the meeting and mingling of communities. Ask questions, compare processes, philosophies, and methodologies. Join Theatre Alberta as we journey across new ground.
In 49 years of programming, the goal of Dramaworks has been to support and challenge its participants with the very best theatre education available. During both jam-packed weekends, the many facets of the performing arts are lit up under the eye of inquiry and development. Highly specialized instructors, a wide range of workshops, and opportunities to meet professional practitioners and committed enthusiasts makes this adult theatre education series a quality development opportunity. Explore the building blocks of acting, the relationship between set and costume design, how to prepare for a workshop of your play, translating stage acting for the camera, and as many theatre games as you can wrap your head around. A carefully selected group of professionals bringing a wonderful learning experience to participants of all levels and interests: that is the tried and true Dramaworks experience.
So what’s new? This year we have crossed borders to bring Alberta a special feature workshop from New York that will introduce new ways of exploring performance style, creation, and training. The Saratoga International Theater Institute (SITI) is an ensemble-based theatre company founded by Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki that combines the Suzuki and Viewpoints methods in their training and new work development. These complementary approaches to the art of creating and performing theatre focus on an international, multi-disciplinary exchange and collaboration: the Suzuki method strengthens the individual performer, while Viewpoints develops the strength of the ensemble and the language of composition. The SITI Intensive will be a concentrated, in-depth exploration for those who have experience in performance creation and professional performer training. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from a company on the cutting edge of contemporary theatre.
From old pros to fresh faces to curious cats, there is something for everyone. Take the Dramaworks challenge: try something different. Test the boundaries of your ability, develop a dynamic skill set, and immerse yourself in new experiences.
