How does the new Theatre Alberta Classifieds section work?
As you may have noticed, we recently updated our website. Theatre Alberta is now using WordPress software as our new content management system. WordPress is best known as a blogging tool – and we’re taking full advantage of its blogging capabilities! As such, all of our industry-based news and information will now be published via a blog, and not on separate pages.
What does this mean? Well, very simply, each new entry we add will be on the same webpage as all the rest, but as separate posts. All of our posts are listed from most recent to oldest. This means that you don’t need to go to separate webpages to find the most recent entries. This also means you can subscribe (via RSS) to Theatre Alberta’s Classifieds and have the information come directly to you!
Furthermore, all Classified submissions are broadcast out to our various networks. We link to all new posts on our Facebook page and Twitter feed. New posts are also included in each edition of Theatre Buzz (as long as your deadline/event date does not occur before the next edition’s distribution date – the first Wednesday of every month). Selected posts from the Edmonton area may also be included in Theatre Alberta’s blog in the Edmonton Journal.
How do I search for the information that’s most relevant to me?
Each post is categorized into either News or Classifieds. If you click News, you’ll find information on industry-based news, events and announcements. If you click Classifieds, you’ll find different Calls for Submissions (eg. auditions, job postings, space listings, workshop opportunities, volunteer opportunities, etc.)
Each post also has a list of Tags attached to it. Tags help further categorize information by region (Calgary, Edmonton, Alberta, and National) and by subject (Auditions, Job Postings, Workshops, Space, Call for Submissions, etc.). If you click a Tag, all of the posts listed with that Tag will appear on your screen, from most recent to oldest.
How do I subscribe to Classifieds?
You can subscribe to our RSS feed via your browser’s built-in RSS reader by clicking the orange RSS button. (Look to the right of your screen: it’s right above the latest post feed and says “Theatre Alberta” next to it. Learn more about RSS here.)
You can also subscribe by using another application such as Bloglines or Google’s Reader (you must have an account with these applications in order to use them).
If you’d rather not subscribe, bookmark our Classifieds web address and check back as often as you like. (We normally post at least one new entry every weekday.)
How do I submit a post to Classifieds?
Fill out our Submit A Classified form or send an email to aaron@theatrealberta.com.
Theatre Alberta will begin charging an administrative fee of $25 per post to non-members as of November 1st, 2011. Theatre Alberta will not charge a fee for News items, such as announcements, events or industry-related news items; however, we reserve the right to pick and choose what content is appropriate to publish to our website.

What information should my Classifieds submission include?
It’s helpful to think of Theatre Alberta’s Classifieds more as an opportunity for a full page web ad than a snippet in a newspaper. Sell your product/service/resource to our members. Images really make a difference in getting your listing noticed!
Remember the 5 Ws:
Who: What is your company? Who is the contact person? How do we contact you?
What: What are you advertising? What’s happening?
Where: What is your region? What is your address? Where is the event happening? Where do you want interested people to go?
When: When is your event happening? When do you need people to contact you by? (Deadlines are important in order for us to determine whether your post will be included in Theatre Buzz.)
Why (… & How): Why should people pay attention to your post? What do you want them to do?
If you want to include a picture, please provide a JPEG attachment or include a URL in the space provided in the form that we can link to.
What should my Classifieds submission not include?
Do not send your submission as a PDF or image attachment. (You can send it as a Word document, if you wish.)
If you wish to include a PDF document that accompanies your submission, we can attach it to your post. However, the vital information for your Classified must be included in the actual post.
What happened to the old Classifieds section?
The old Classifieds (Postings) section has been removed. Some of the listings have been archived under our Resources menu. You can find archived postings in our Space Archives, Submission Archives and Resources Archives.
