Audition (Edmonton) – Dog Sees God – Rabid Marmot Productions

Due to an unforeseen circumstance, Rabid Marmot Productions is currently seeking an actor to play the role of CB in their upcoming production of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, running May 17 – 27th at the PCL Studio Theatre. Applicants should be available to begin rehearsals immediately, as the show has already started rehearsing.

CB (Charlie Brown) – The show’s protagonist, on a quest to answer an existential question. Confused, insecure, and emotional, he is intensely saddened over the death of his dog and searches for meaning in his life through his friends. MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH THE MATURE THEMES OF THE SHOW, as well as the homosexual tendencies of the character.

This emergency audition will take place on the evening of Wednesday, March 28th from 6 – 9pm. All actors are requested to prepare at least one monologue, (although two contrasting is preferable,) and may be asked to read a side from the script with a member of the ensemble (available upon booking an audition).

Remuneration will be an equal-portion of show profits.

Youth Face is a community theatre production that looks at the experiences of young people and their families, and explores the dynamics of human relationships and one’s sense of self. The project’s goal is to initiate conversation in one of Edmonton’s ethnocultural communities about issues the community is facing and how to address them. Rehearsals involve some theatre skill development, so actors with all levels of experience are welcome!

We are looking for actors to fill the following roles ASAP:

Position: Arts Administration Assistant
Duration: 6 weeks, June 18 through July 27, 2012

Answering to the Free Will Players’ General Manager, the Arts Administration Assistant is responsible for general administrative duties relating to daily office operations for the duration of the Freewill Shakespeare Festival.

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who possess a high degree of organization, professional correspondence and communications skills, proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word, and a general understanding of arts administration and non-profit operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • General administration, including acting as first contact for public inquiries during the Festival, as well as liaising with the onsite Festival staff when necessary. 
  • Daily office filing and reporting from the previous day’s totals at the Park, Tix on the Square liaising, general correspondence with the public, and analysis of box office statistics. 
  • Development of the Freewill mailing list from information gathered from patrons at the Festival. 
  • Take group-booking inquiries and provide information on special events during the festival, and liaise with the General Manager on the progress of sales in these areas. 
  • Assist the publicist with brochure distribution, media contact, and social networking online for the duration of the Festival.

The Arts Administration Assistant will work from the Freewill office (inside the Milner Library). Hours are approximately noon to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, for the duration of the Festival, June 18 to July 27, 2012. Interested applicants are asked to submit a resume and a cover lever by April 16, 2012.

Preference will be given to applicants who are returning post-secondary students in an Administrative or Arts related program of study. We thank all candidates who apply in advance, however, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.

Pumphouse TheatreThe Pumphouse Theatre is now accepting applications for four (4) full time drama instructor positions for the twenty-eighth annual Summer Drama Day Camp.

Drama camp activities include the exploration of acting, improvisation, creative movement, voice, sound, storytelling, and playwriting. The goal of the program is to develop the social interaction and life skills of the participants through creative utilization of theatrical techniques. The instructors also facilitate their students in developing a production, which is performed for friends and family on the final day of camp. Pumphouse Theatre believes in drama education that encourages creativity, freedom, and a healthy sense of play in our youth.

The Drama Instructors will work under the guidance of the Camp Coordinator to assist in program development and be responsible for the overall execution of the curriculum. Instructors will also work closely in a leadership relationship with Camp Counselors.

Potential candidates must be available from 8:00-5:30 Monday to Thursday, and both day and evening on Fridays throughout the summer.

The successful applicants will:

  • Possess the ability to supervise and instruct young people between the ages of 8 – 14 and will have had previous experience in this area.
  • Have a solid understanding of the creative theatre process and have experience and/or education in this area
  • Have had at least one term or semester of a Drama/Theatre class and/or Education class
  • Display strong communicative and interpersonal skills
  • Be committed to the creative development and the theatrical education of the participants
  • Experience with ESL
  • Know how to have fun!
  • Some experience with the creative use/construction of props, costumes and sets is an asset.

Due to the structure of the employment grants received by the Pumphouse Theatre, applicants who are currently enrolled as University students and are continuing their education in the fall of 2012, or are recent graduates within the last 12 months will have an advantage.

Time commitment is approximately 40 hours per week for 8 weeks, beginning the week of June 18 and continuing through August 10, 2012 (Monday to Friday). The wage is $14.00 an hour.
