FTA is seeking two new positions: Volunteer Coordinator and Assistant Volunteer Coordinator.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of the FTA Volunteer Department and ensures effective implementation of FTA initiatives through involvement of volunteers at all levels of the organization. 

This position is responsible for building a positive and meaningful environment for the 1,000+ volunteers and approximately 100 volunteer Team Leaders involved with the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival and with Arts at the Barns.

The Assistant Volunteer Coordinator reports to and assists the Volunteer Coordinator with responsibilities as they relate to the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival.  This Festival engages 1000+ Volunteers and 100+ Volunteer Team Leaders over a 10-day period in August.

Call for Submissions (Alberta): Alberta Screenwriters Initiative – Writers Guild of Alberta

2012 marks the sixth year for the Alberta Screenwriters Initiative. The Alberta Association of Motion Picture and Television Unions (AAMPTU) are seeking submissions of feature film scripts of any genre, to a maximum length of 250 pages, from Alberta based screenwriters. This annual prize awards avid Alberta screenwriters a first prize of $1000 and a professional workshop with a carefully matched experienced story editor or screenwriter. The 2nd and 3rd place winners receives story notes, editorial feedback and $500.00 and $250.00 respectively. The deadline for this award is March 12, 2012.

The Alberta Screenwriters Initiative was created in 2007 by the Alberta Film Partners with the assistance of AAMPTU to facilitate the development of screenwriters in this province. The Initiative recognizes the importance of story in the creation of filmed entertainment and the necessity to actively encourage and develop the voices of Alberta writers in film.The Writers Guild of Alberta administers the Initiative on behalf of the AAMPTU. The Initiative is supported by proceeds from past Annual Film Industry Wrap Parties.

Three Left Feet is now accepting submissions for our 
2012-2013 Season Auditions: June 9-10, 2012!

Dancers will help run our 2012-2013 dance education programs in schools.

Applicants should have a passion for sharing dance as well as a strong technical background in Ballet or Contemporary Dance. This should be complemented by experience in other dance forms, such as Jazz, West African and/or Gymnastics. 

Teaching experience and strong fluency in a second language are assets, but not required.

Job (Drumheller): Production Manager/ Technical Director – Canadian Badlands Passion Play

Production Manager / Technical Director 

The Canadian Badlands Passion Play is currently accepting applications for the Production Manager / Technical Director position for the summer of 2012. The contract would run from April 1st starting part time and full time May 1st to July 29th, 2012.

Canadian Badlands Passion PlayThe P.M./T.D.’s responsibilities:

  • Attend Management Meetings, and deal with issues that may arise.
  • Keep team up to date with plans and changes for the year.
  • Facilitate the team (stage management and technicians) to prepare for rehearsals so the site is ready.
  • Establish lines of communication with all team members
  • Arrange production meetings with the production team
  • Coordinate schedules on site. This includes the stage, rehearsal hall and lodge space between departments
  • Inform, monitor and maintain the production calendar
  • Monitoring and update the show’s materials and labour budgets
  • Negotiate and coordinate all personnel resources
  • Assist in research and acquisition of materials as necessary
  • Work towards a safe and secure performance space for actors, audience and crew
  • Insure that the crew has appropriate training to execute the run of the show
  • Supervise that all expenses are accounted for, all receipts are turned in and all accounts are up to date within two weeks of the close of the production
  • Organize, and supervise the safe build and execution of new set elements, repairing of current ones as notes come from the Designer and Stage Manager.
  • Track and identify new opportunities to improve the stage area, and surrounding to keep a safety standard, and efficiency throughout the day.
  • Liaison with the Designers about details relating to set, props, set dressing etc before building or repairing any of the above.
  • Track and identify any concerns with audience pathways, and seating with the General Manager.
  • During performances ensure all technicians are working effectively to keep the safety of the cast, and themselves. With feedback from the show technicians, and stage management work towards making the running of the show a smooth and efficient one.
  • This is an evolving position, so new duties may be assigned as they arise.

The Canadian Badlands Passion Play is one of Canada’s largest outdoor theatrical events. Now in its 19th season, the company annually depicts the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ in dramatic form. An epic story told on an epic scale, this year’s production features a creative retelling of the Gospel of John. The script will be originated by a mixed professional/volunteer cast of approximately 200 actors in a 2700-seat outdoor amphitheatre.

Dark, humorous and very topical, The Final Word explores two opposing views of human nature and of what an artist means in our society. 

Sharon Cavanaugh is a two-time Herman Voaden National Playwriting Award winner.  She has also worked as a director in theatre and film.  Her play “The Pasta King of the Caribbean” was made into a feature film for Bravo! Television. Most recently, “The He/She Plays”, her series of short comic plays, were presented as part of One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo.  They were produced this past year as a one-hour radio special for CBC National Radio Drama. Originally from Montreal, Sharon has worked in theatre across Canada for over twenty years.

Elyne Quan is a writer, actor, director and dramaturg. She holds a MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University and a BA Honors degree in Drama from the University of Alberta. 

Submit a script in development to receive one-on-one feedback, support and analysis. APN’s Dramaturgical Committee and one Dramaturgical “Guest Star” (a notable Canadian theatre professional) read all of the submitted plays. Notes and feedback are generated and a representative from APN will meet with you personally to discuss your work, provide you with the feedback and generate a development strategy tailored to you and the needs of your play. For a $75.00 fee, your play will be assisted in its development through two drafts.

APN’s Playwriting Circles will help you to focus your work and move forward with it, working with a small group of your peers and led by well renowned playwright, Gordon Pengilly.
