THEATRE ALBERTA
Theatre Alberta is a Provincial Arts Service Organization (PASO) committed to encouraging the growth of theatre in Alberta. We offer a wide range of services to drama students, professional theatre artists, educators, and enthusiasts, as well as to schools, post-secondary institutions, and community and professional theatres.
Programs and Services
- Library – fully circulating with over 15,000 titles including playscripts, musicals, periodicals, and reference materials (free mail service to members outside the Edmonton area)
- Artstrek – a residential summer theatre program for teens held at Red Deer College each July
- Dramaworks – an annual theatre workshop series for adults held in Edmonton each July
- Playworks Ink – a weekend theatre conference held in Calgary each fall—co-presented with Alberta Playwrights’ Network
- Workshops by Request for community theatres across the province
- Emerge – an annual audition event that introduces graduates of Alberta’s post-secondary acting programs to the province’s professional directors
- Safe Stages – a publication and program for occupational Health and Safety awareness and education
- The Playbill – an annual poster of Alberta’s theatre season
- Theatre Alberta News – a quarterly print newsletter
- TA eNews – a monthly electronic newsletter
- Publications including Playscript Catalogues, the Community Theatre Handbook, and the Theatre Facility Handbook
- Direct Support to associate organizations: Alberta Playwrights’ Network, Canadian Institute of Theatre Technology Alberta Section, and the Alberta High School Drama Festival Association
- Information and Advocacy on local, provincial, and national fronts for theatre and the arts
